Peggy Curlin, an international leader in family planning and women's health with more than 20 years of field experience, is the President of The Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA).

Prior to joining CEDPA, Ms. Curlin founded Concerned Women for Family Planning, a Bengali women's health and family planning organization. Since 1978, she has led CEDPA's empowerment approach to development and population activities. In 1994, she was a member of the U.S. delegation to the U.N.'s International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, Egypt.

Ms. Curlin is a member of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid (ACVFA), the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Advisory Committee to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and is on the Executive Committee of InterAction. She is a frequent speaker and writer on women's empowerment and women's health.

CEDPA is a woman-focused nonprofit international organization founded in 1975. Its mission is to empower women at all levels of society to be full partners in development.

CEDPA's strategies for empowerment include building the capacities of individuals and non-governmental organizations (NGOs); mobilizing women's political participation in community, regional and national arenas; establishing gender-sensitive reproductive health programs; and involving youth in development. Through partnerships with governmental organizations, NGOs, coalitions and alumni networks in more than 40 countries, CEDPA's work promotes gender equitable development.

CEDPA receives funding from USAID, UNFPA, private foundations and individuals. The main CEDPA office is in Washington, DC, with field offices in Cambodia, Egypt, Ghana, India, Nepal, Nigeria, Romania, Russia and South Africa.
