Why not put money into child survival methods instead of family planning?

Answer: Family planning is child survival. The number and frequency of pregnancies and births a woman experiences directly affects her health, as well as the well being and survival of her children. A large proportion of child deaths in developing countries can be traced to risks related to pregnancy and birth. In fact, children born to mothers after four or more pregnancies are at a greater risk of dying than their siblings. Children born to mothers who have given birth within the past two years, are likely to have a low birth weight and have twice the chance of dying in their first year of life compared to with their counterparts whose mothers spaced their births by at least two years.
