Women to Women: Positively Speaking
|
 |
World renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino, and co-hosts human-rights campaigner Bianca Jagger and US fashion designer, Kenneth Cole, welcomed guests to a celebrity packed event late last week at Kensington Palace to celebrate the launch of the Fashion Fights AIDS campaign. Guests included Elton John and David Furnish, Sienna Miller, Jasmine Guinness, Lily Cole, Isabella Blow, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Sam Taylor-Wood, Tamara Mellon and Tommy Hilfiger.
The campaign, backed by international charities Marie Stopes International and Interact Worldwide, aims to raise funds to tackle the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the developing world and address stigma in the UK. A key element of the campaign is the book, Women to Women: Positively Speaking, which uses Mario Testino's stunning photography to help document the experiences of women from all over the world who are living with HIV/AIDS.
"I photograph women everyday; I am regularly exposed to beautiful, privileged and healthy women through my work. For this publication, I have taken photographs of women from around the world, from diverse backgrounds, who have been deeply affected by HIV/AIDS. I would like to show them as they are; mothers, wives, daughters, hardworking professionals who continue to be positive, generous and loving despite their ordeals."
Designer Kenneth Cole added "This project will help raise awareness about the biggest pandemic the world has ever seen."
