Please join Women's Edge Coalition member “FAIR Fund” next Tuesday night for a special screening of “Grbavica,” a film about women, gender-based violence, and moving forward with life in post-war Bosnia.
The event will also spotlight our pending legislation, the International Violence Against Women Act. The “I-VAWA” will provide a comprehensive U.S. response to violence against women and girls around the world.
What: Screening of Grbavica
When: Tuesday, April 17th, 6:30 pm
Where: Washington’s E Street Cinema, 555 11th Street NW
Tickets for the screening are $15/$12 for students.
Grbavica provides an intimate window into the lives of women and girls in post-conflict and contemporary Bosnia. FAIR Fund's Executive Director, Andrea Powell, will discuss the Fund’s programs to support and protect younger women around the world from sexual violence, discrimination, and human trafficking.
Approximately one in three of the world’s women will experience violence in her lifetime based on her sex. Violence against women and girls affects societies across the world, taking many forms including domestic violence, rape, so-called honor killings, acid burning, and female genital cutting.
The I-VAWA bill was created through a collaborative effort led by the Women's Edge Coalition, Amnesty International, and the Family Violence Prevention Fund. It will require the U.S. government to systematically integrate efforts to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls into U.S. foreign assistance programs.
The bill has enjoyed the input of gender experts and women’s organizations from across the United States and around the world.
Proceeds from Tuesday’s event will support FAIR Fund's international work to engage and empower young women and girls to lead lives free of violence, sexual assault, and exploitation.
