Washington, D.C. — Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) will outline her plan to move the Prevention First Act through the 110th Congress along with the merits of the bill on Thursday, June 7, at a luncheon at the National Press Club. The luncheon will be held on the 42nd anniversary of Griswold v. Connecticut, the landmark decision that guaranteed the right to birth control, and will include leaders of the pro-choice community who will briefly address the key sections of the legislation.

Mrs. Slaughter is the lead sponsor of the Prevention First Act. The bill includes Title X funding, health insurance coverage, access to emergency contraception, comprehensive sex education and Medicaid funding for family planning. As chairwoman of the House Committee on Rules, Mrs. Slaughter is seen as the second most powerful woman in the House of Representatives. She also is co-chair of the Bipartisan Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus.
