There will be a U.S. Capitol Hill Briefing "U.S. Environmental Sustainability: How the Nation's Population Growth Affects the Environment"

WHAT: A Capitol Hill Briefing will be held to release the groundbreaking “U.S. National Report on Population and the Environment", an invaluable tool for understanding environmental sustainability issues in all U.S. states and districts. Key findings from the report will be highlighted. The “U.S. National Report on Population and the Environment":
- Is the first document of its kind to lay out in simple, compelling terms how major U.S. population and resource consumption trends across the nation affect its natural environment (air, land, water, biodiversity, other natural resources, and climate change).
- Provides the best available supporting scientific research, data, and analysis in a balanced, easy-to-understand format that any Member can use to address the question, "What does this mean for sustainability issues in my state and district?"
- The report:
- --shows how a variety of U.S. population and environmental trends relate directly to constituents everywhere;
- --provides the latest scientific research in ways that are easily understood by a wide range of audiences, including the general public, media, local community leaders, students, and policy makers, and;
- --documents supporting research to influence change in the direction of environmental sustainability in the face of our nation's population growth.
The Report is a non-partisan, balanced, science-based tool that examines the nation's growth, and environmental impacts, from the local-national levels. It highlights state, regional (South, West, Northeast, and Midwest), and national trends, and can be used as a resource to help provide background on the critical issues of how the growth in our country today impacts its environmental base.
