Groundbreaking new report shows new openness to issues

On Earth Day 2009 the Center for Environment and Population (CEP), a leading national non-profit organization, is Putting the "Pop" into Earth Day by releasing it's new groundbreaking report on "US Population, Energy and Climate Change" . The new report shows for the first time how the U.S. - the fastest growing large industrialized nation and highest energy consuming country in the world, and its population factors such as per capita energy use, and where and how people live - are all major contributors to global climate change. This balanced science-based, easy-to-understand report - referred by US News and World Report as one of its top "Hot Docs" this year - is a valuable resource tool for everyone who wants to understand how population and resource use are associated with climate change and other environmental impacts on the earth, and, the U.S. role in it all.

CEP is distributing the new report and their popular "US National Report on Population and the Environment" to the White House, policymakers on Capitol Hill, the media, nationwide NGOs, and the public. CEP wants to promote a new approach of "cross-fertilization" where policymakers dealing with environmental issues sit at deliberations dealing with population issues, and demographic/population experts sit at environment and climate change tables.

This cross-sectoral approach has been very well received by the Obama Administration, policymakers, and the public. It all reflects a growing interest on the part of US government, policymakers, students, and the public on the science-based linkages between population and the environment.
