A series of events in Washington, DC on April 6 and 7 brought together hundreds of leading advocates for women, children, and the environment to voice their support for international family planning. Participants in the events included Congressional members, State Department representatives, non-governmental organizations, the media, international service providers, foundations, and celebrities. The activities culminated with an event at The White House on World Health Day, where President Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright were among speakers emphasizing the role of family planning in saving women's lives.

Leading up to the White House event, a Foreign Press Center briefing, a State Department media briefing, and a Congressional forum and reception comprised Thursday's agenda. Thursday evening, invited guests participated in roundtable discussions at a Cosmos Club dinner and renewed their commitment to raising awareness and support for this critical global issue. Participants in these events hope their efforts will generate momentum leading into 2001 budget discussions on funding levels for international family planning.
